There are classic professionally-installed Christmas lights that go up for the holidays and come down afterward. And then there are permanent lighting systems that stay on your home year-round and can change colors for Christmas, Halloween, the Fourth of July, or Razorback game day. So which is better? Good question! It really depends on what you want your home to look like, and how often you want to enjoy the lights. At Knight’s Lights, we install both throughout Northwest Arkansas. Here’s how I’d think about the decision.   # The biggest difference: the look ## Seasonal lights: that classic Christmas look *![](https://knightslights.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-1.jpeg?width=2048&height=1536&name=undefined-1.jpeg)* When most people picture a home beautifully decorated for Christmas, they’re thinking of traditional C9-style bulbs tracing the roofline, with maybe some wreaths, garland, or trees wrapped in lights. That’s what seasonal lighting does especially well. The bulbs are individually spaced, bright, festive, and unmistakably Christmas. You can choose warm white, red and white, multicolor, or a more elaborate display. And because the display is temporary, you can change it in future seasons. After the holidays, we remove everything and store it for next year. A system stays attached to your home year-round, so you can change colors and patterns for different holidays, celebrations, or everyday accent lighting. At Knight’s Lights, we install the Govee Pro system using a custom-fit, color-matched track mounting. We choose the track-mounted approach for a cleaner daytime appearance and added durability compared with exposed mounting. - Christmas? Red and green. - Halloween? Orange and purple. - 4th of July? Red, White, and Blue. - Razorback game day? Red. - Or maybe you just want a soft glow on an ordinary evening. You get the point. The tradeoff is that permanent lights generally don’t create exactly the same look as traditional C9 Christmas bulbs. Their size, spacing, and placement are different. If that bold, nostalgic Christmas look is what you love, seasonal lighting may still be your favorite. # What’s included? and what does it cost? ## Seasonal Christmas lighting Our seasonal Christmas lighting projects start at $800, with many residential projects around $1,800. The final price depends on your roofline measurements, number of stories, installation complexity, and whether you’d like to add wreaths, garland, or landscape lighting. Seasonal service is all-inclusive: we design the display, furnish the lights and materials, install everything, maintain the display during the season, take it down afterward, and store the materials for next year. Under our standard seasonal arrangement, normal material replacements are also handled as part of the service. There’s no large upfront purchase of a permanent system, but the seasonal service is an annual expense. ## Permanent holiday lighting Our permanent lighting installations generally run $25–$35 per linear foot. For example, a home with 150 linear feet of lighting could fall around $3,750–$5,250, depending on layout and installation details. Those figures are illustrations, not a quote for a particular home. We use Govee Pro lighting installed in track for a neat, integrated finish. Our permanent installations include a 3-year material warranty and a 5-year craftsmanship warranty. Ask us about the specific coverage terms when reviewing your estimate. Permanent lighting is usually a bigger upfront investment, but it can be enjoyed throughout the year without scheduling a roofline installation every Christmas. Repairs outside warranty coverage may still have a cost. While not guaranteed, Govee Pro customer report the systems lasting as long as 10+ years, if installed and maintained properly. Permanent roofline lights can be paired with seasonal wreaths, greenery, trees, or other decorations. That can be a great combination. # A few questions we hear a lot ## Do permanent lights look just like C9 Christmas lights? Not quite. Permanent lights can display Christmas colors, but the shape, spacing, mounting, and overall effect are different. I recommend comparing actual nighttime photos of both. ## Can I change permanent-light colors whenever I want? Yes. Govee Pro offers app-based color and effect controls, so you can change the look for different occasions. ## What happens when a light needs replacing? For standard seasonal service, routine maintenance and normal material replacement are included.
